Backing Tracks: Key of A minor
Part of being a good guitarist, is the ability to improvise a solo. Most guitarists begin with the basic minor pentatonic scale in root position (pictured below). This pentatonic scale is essentially a box that can be moved around the guitar to change keys as you play different songs that are written in different keys. Each track below is in the key of A minor. Use the A minor pentatonic scale below and improvise a solo based around these songs. The last track is in A major. It will have a different sound and feel, but rock guitarists have been forcing minor pentatonic scales over major chord progressions for decades.
If you have the technology for it, record yourself! It really helps to hear and critique yourself and you will be able to see your improvements over time. Send me your recordings and I may feature them on this page!
