My name is Shane Nicholas and I've been married for 5 years to the best wife that anyone could ask for. We live in Pelham
and have two miniature dachshunds, Flops and Sadie. We got Sadie as Flops' second birthday present because, yes, we're that dorky.
This is my full-time job. I'm not a guy that has a career and teaches a few music lessons on the side. I teach 60 students every week and am committed to learning and growing as an educator. I teach at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover, AL where I currently teach guitar, drums, piano, bass guitar, and ukulele.

Although I am a Christian and teach in a church, I rarely teach "church music". Although learning worship music is definitely an option and a passion of mine, most of my students work on classic rock and current songs of their choice. All of my guitar students and drum students start in lesson books learning the basic fundamentals of the instrument and reading music, but are then free to choose any genre or band that they would like to work on. I have taught everything from Taylor Swift to AC/DC to Amazing Grace to Toby Mac to Jimmy Buffet to Hillsong to Pink Floyd and everything in between. |
I have been playing guitar for over 13 years and drums for over 11 years. I have 8+ years of experience teaching private music lessons and have had hundreds of students during this time.
I have a degree in music education and I am certified to teach in K-12 Christian schools. Before I landed my current teaching job I student taught for a semester and almost had a job as a K-12 general music and choir teacher at a local school.
I believe that you get out of something whatever you put into it. If you work hard and practice your instrument it will pay off
and you will see results. If you choose not to practice you won't see results and probably won't really enjoy your instrument.

I have a passion for learning. I'm constantly learning new musical styles and instruments and recently earned my M.A. in Theological Studies. Learning (in whatever form) is a lifelong process and if you want to continue to grow as a person you must keep learning. I have been a worship leader for the last 6 years. I spent two years as the worship pastor at a small church before moving to Hunter Street to lead the worship for their preteen ministry, route56, where I have served for four years. |
I like to fix broken things. Maybe this is what led me to ministry and teaching in the first place. I enjoy working with things and making them better. I continually buy used instruments and fix them up. My dad is a carpenter and works with his hands every day so I would imagine my passion somehow stems from that.
I love Jesus, but i'm not very good at it. I grew up Catholic and chose to follow God at the age of 14 (right around the time I got into music). We are all created in God's image, but we have fallen and are a broken fragment of what we should be. God is holy and just and the punishment for our selfishness and fallen nature is death. We can either try to live a good life (salvation
by works) and die, or trust that Christ has fulfilled God's requirement of death for us (salvation by faith) and live. I highly recommend that you choose the latter. I continue to fail every day, but I grow stronger as I look to God and not myself.
