Easy Chords: Key of E
Here are some easy chords for the key of E. These chords can often be substituted for the basic chords (Aadd9 instead of A, Bsus4 for B..). These chords are used often by songwriters, country musicians, and worship leaders. Because the third and fourth fingers are open through all of these chords, there is a sense of musical continuity between each chords in addition to them being easier to play.

The E Shape
These chords are based around the basic E chord. Each chord is simply moved up the neck to the designated fret. Be sure to mute the low E string on the Aadd9 and Badd11 chords.

The Power Chord Shape
This popular shape is used most often in rock and blues styles, but can be useful for playing open chords on the acoustic or electric guitar as well. The A2 chord is also based off of this shape. Continue moving the Power Chord Shape down the neck until your first finger is behind the nut.
