This page is dedicated to showcasing games and ideas that I have used in my private lessons. Some of these are adapted from piano games or games that I've found on other teachers blogs and some are born of necessity during a lesson. For some reason there is a severe lack of resources for guitar and drum teachers to use during their private lessons. I hope this page proves helpful to my fellow guitar and drum instructors, and I hope to open up a dialogue with music teachers of all instruments (especially piano!) to see how we can share resources and experiences to make our students lesson experience the best it can be. I will be adding to this page frequently as I discover new games so check back frequently and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions for resources!
writing on the board
Why is writing on the board so much fun? Incorporate a chalk or marker board into your lessons and find out!
walk the line
Simple game to test your students knowledge of notes on the fretboard. Also gives them practice standing and playing!
Game 1 and Game 2
Ironically, these are probably the best games that I currently have but I don't have names for them! Suggestions?
Game 1 is a flash card game that has students running around the room to beat the clock as they work on treble clef notes.
Game 2 is a matching game with paper plates and a floor grid (tile floor or sectioned rug) to help students learn the notes on the fretboard.
