How to make a Homemade Practice Pad
Step 1: Find an old mouse pad
Dig through your closets. Make a visit to the thrift store. Spend $5 at Wal-Mart for a new one if you need to, but free mouse pads rock. You shouldn’t have to look too hard to find an unused mouse pad.
Step 2: Practice.
Yep. That’s it. Mouse Pads make great practice pads and they’re cheap and easy to find. The rebound on them is excellent and very similar to rubber practice pads and your drum set. For comparison, mouse pads are most similar in feel to your floor tom. They are also super easy to take on the go. Leave them flat. Roll them up. Bend them in half. They can take a beating.
If you really want to get fancy, you can cut the pad into a cool shape and mount it onto a piece of wood, cutting board, or any other piece of hard inflexible material. Now you have a pad that you can mount, hold in your lap, or use for any other situation where a flat surface is not available.
